Product Description
Sodium Methylbenzotriazole is a highly effective, multifunctional corrosion inhibitor belonging to the benzotriazole class. It is typically supplied as a clear, light-yellow to amber aqueous solution. This product is specifically designed to provide superior protection for a wide range of metals, particularly copper, brass, bronze, and silver, as well as alloys containing lead, nickel, and zinc.
The mechanism of action involves the adsorption of the molecule onto the metal surface, forming a dense, monomolecular protective film. This barrier effectively isolates the metal from aggressive corrosive agents such as oxygen, water, and harsh ions, thereby preventing oxidation, tarnishing, and galvanic corrosion. Compared to standard Benzotriazole (BTA), the methyl-substituted derivative offers improved solubility in organic systems and often enhanced thermal stability.

Application Scenarios
Corrosion Inhibitor:It is primarily used as an anti-rust and corrosion prevention agent for metals such as silver, copper, lead, nickel, and zinc. By adsorbing onto the metal surface, it forms a thin protective film that blocks corrosive substances like water and oxygen from reaching the metal, thereby preventing deterioration. It is widely applied in circulating cooling water systems, heat exchangers, air-conditioning equipment, and other systems containing copper components.
Additive:It can also serve as an additive in lubricants, coatings, synthetic detergents, and similar products, helping enhance their performance and extend their service life.
