Product Description
HPMA-Deep is a low-molecular-weight hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride (HPMA) designed for industrial water treatment applications. HPMA typically has a molecular weight in the range of 400–800.
It is readily soluble in water and offers excellent chemical and thermal stability, with a decomposition temperature above 330°C. HPMA is particularly suitable for alkaline operating conditions and high-temperature water treatment applications.
With its excellent scale inhibition, dispersion, and high-temperature resistance, HPMA is widely used in industrial circulating cooling water, low-pressure boiler water treatment, and seawater desalination systems, particularly in thermal desalination processes.
HPMA also provides a certain degree of corrosion inhibition. When formulated with zinc salts, its corrosion protection performance can be further improved.
In addition to water treatment, HPMA can also be used in cement admixtures and as a soil conditioner for saline-alkali soils.

Application Scenarios
1. Industrial Circulating Cooling Water
HPMA is suitable for a wide range of industrial cooling water systems, including:
· Steel mill circulating water systems
· Power plant cooling water systems
· Chemical plant circulating water
· Petrochemical process cooling water
· Heat exchanger circulation systems
· Central air-conditioning cooling water systems
Main Functions
HPMA helps:
· Inhibit the formation of calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scale
· Disperse suspended solids, iron oxides, and deposits in water
· Reduce scale accumulation on heat exchanger surfaces and pipelines
· Loosen and disperse certain existing soft or loosely attached deposits
· Improve overall scale and corrosion control when combined with organophosphonates and zinc salts
2. Boiler Water Treatment
HPMA can be used in:
· Industrial steam boilers
· Low-pressure boilers
· Hot-water boilers
· Selected high-temperature industrial water systems
One of the key advantages of HPMA is its excellent thermal stability combined with scale inhibition and dispersion performance.
It helps reduce the deposition of calcium- and magnesium-based scale on boiler heat-transfer surfaces, helping maintain heat-transfer efficiency and system cleanliness.
3. Seawater Desalination
Seawater desalination is one of the representative high-temperature applications for HPMA.
HPMA can be used in applications including:
· Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) desalination systems
· High-temperature evaporation and concentration systems
· Seawater pretreatment and associated water treatment processes
Seawater contains high concentrations of dissolved salts, which can cause significant mineral deposition during evaporation and concentration.
HPMA helps control scale formation through crystal-growth modification, threshold inhibition, and dispersion, thereby reducing the formation and deposition of mineral scale under appropriate operating conditions.
