Product Description
Direct Red 23 is a purple-red direct dye with moderate water-solubility. Once dissolved in water, it delivers a bright-red aqueous solution, which shows distinct color shifts under different acid-base conditions. Adding dilute sulfuric acid turns the solution light-blue; concentrated hydrochloric acid triggers a wine-red precipitate, while strong alkali shifts the tone toward reddish-orange-brown.
This dyestuff is sparingly soluble in ethanol to form an orange-hued solution and shows no solubility in acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it exhibits bright-red to magenta tones and turns brown-orange upon dilution. Concentrated nitric acid generates orange-yellow precipitates, whereas concentrated alkali cannot dissolve it. However, it dissolves fully in concentrated ammonia solution to yield a bright-red liquid.
Metal ions exert noticeable influences on dyeing outcomes: copper ions darken the final shade, while iron ions barely alter the color appearance of the dyed substrate.

Application Scenarios
Direct Red 23 is a versatile direct dye widely utilized for the dyeing and printing of natural textile fibers including cotton, viscose and linen. It also suits the coloration of silk, wool, paper and leather materials, and can be processed into lake pigments for diversified industrial uses.
This dye delivers pure scarlet and madder red (yellowish red) hues when used alone. It features excellent color compatibility and can be compounded with yellow, orange, red, brown and other dye tones to create rich, customized color shades.
Dyed fabrics adapt well to conventional post-finishing treatments. Urea-formaldehyde resin finishing and Fixing Agent Y treatment cause negligible changes to the original color tone. In contrast, treatment with Fixing Agent M will bring an obvious blue shift to the finished color shade.
