Product Description
During the extraction of alumina from bauxite or sintered bauxite, alumina plants may generate insoluble substances that can deposit on the internal surfaces of process equipment, such as pipelines, evaporators, heat exchangers, and other process units, resulting in scale buildup.
Scale deposits can adversely affect alumina production by increasing process losses and significantly reducing the heat-transfer efficiency of equipment. In particular, scale buildup on heating tubes, evaporator surfaces, pipelines, and other heat-transfer components can negatively affect process efficiency. Therefore, controlling and removing scale is an important part of improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs in alumina production.
The chemical and phase composition of scale formed during alumina production varies depending on the process and operating conditions. Scale formed on the heating tubes of tubular preheaters mainly consists of sodium silicate-containing deposits. Scale formed in evaporators primarily consists of sodium aluminosilicates, which may precipitate in specific mineral phases.
During evaporation, the solubility of silica in sodium aluminate liquor decreases as the evaporation temperature increases. As a result, silica can become supersaturated in the mother liquor and precipitate in the form of sodium aluminosilicates, forming hard deposits on the internal surfaces of evaporators. Evaporation-related scale may also contain certain amounts of sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate, and other inorganic salts.
Based on studies of scale formation on heat-transfer surfaces during mother-liquor evaporation, as well as the effects of scale-inhibiting additives on reducing scale formation, our company developed PO-606 Alumina Evaporation Scale Inhibitor specifically for alumina evaporation processes.
PO-606 provides effective scale control by slowing the rate of scale formation on heat-transfer surfaces. It can also help make scale deposits less compact and easier to remove during subsequent cleaning, thereby supporting stable equipment operation and improving maintenance efficiency.

Product Parameters
| Item | Specification |
| Appearance | Clear, colorless to brown liquid |
| Density (20°C), g/cm³ | 1.10 ± 0.05 |
| pH (1% aqueous solution) | 6.0–9.0 |
Application Method
PO-606 should be introduced into the process system at a suitable point upstream of the evaporation equipment, allowing sufficient time for the product to mix thoroughly with the process liquor before entering the evaporator.
The product is generally fed into the system using a metering pump. The recommended dosage is 8–20 g per m³ of process liquor.
The optimum dosage should be determined according to the composition of the process liquor, operating conditions, scaling tendency, and actual process requirements.
Packaging, Storage & Handling
PO-606 is supplied in plastic drums:
· 25 kg/drum
· 200 kg/drum
· Other packaging sizes can be provided according to customer requirements.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated indoor area and keep away from sources of ignition.
Shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions.
Appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn during handling. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water.
