Nicotinic Acid plays a significant role in hydrogen transfer reactions in the human body and is essential for helping prevent pellagra. It supports the maintenance of healthy skin and normal nervous system function, while also contributing to proper digestive processes. Both Nicotinic Acid and Niacinamide are widely used to prevent and treat pellagra, a nutritional disorder resulting from niacin deficiency.
Niacin is also used in the management of elevated cholesterol levels. In some applications, the combination of niacin and colestipol may achieve cholesterol-lowering effects comparable to those obtained through the combination of colestipol and statin therapy.
Niacin USP-grade granules are widely used in food fortification, dietary supplements, and the manufacture of pharmaceutical intermediates. Feed-grade niacin is commonly incorporated into animal nutrition products as a vitamin supplement for poultry, swine, ruminants, fish, dogs, cats, and other animals.
