Product Description
Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound and a non-oxidizing biocide with broad-spectrum and highly effective bactericidal and algicidal properties.
It effectively controls the growth of bacteria, algae, and slime-forming microorganisms in water systems. It also provides good slime-removal and dispersing properties, as well as a certain degree of wetting and penetrating action.
In addition, Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 offers oil-removing, deodorizing, and corrosion-inhibiting properties, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 has relatively low toxicity and does not readily accumulate in organisms. It is readily soluble in water and its performance is not significantly affected by water hardness.
It is therefore widely used in recirculating cooling water systems in the petroleum, chemical, power generation, and textile industries to control microbial growth, algae, and slime deposits.
It is particularly effective against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB).
In the textile and dyeing industry, Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 can also be used as an antimicrobial and antifungal agent, as well as a softening agent, antistatic agent, emulsifier, and conditioning agent.

Application Scenarios
As a Biocide and Algaecide
For microbial and algae control in recirculating cooling water systems, the typical dosage is:
50–100 mg/L
The actual dosage should be adjusted according to water quality, microbial loading, system conditions, and treatment requirements.
As a Slime-Removal / Slime-Control Agent
For slime removal and control, the recommended dosage is generally:
200–300 mg/L
When necessary, an appropriate amount of a silicone-based defoamer may be added to control foam generated during treatment.
Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 can be used in combination with other biocides, such as isothiazolinones, glutaraldehyde, and methylene dithiocyanate (DTC), to provide synergistic antimicrobial performance.
Do not use Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 together with chlorophenol-based biocides.
After treatment, detached slime and other deposits may accumulate in the circulating water. These contaminants should be promptly removed by filtration or skimming to prevent deposition after the foam has subsided.
Compatibility
Benzalkonium Chloride 1227 must not be mixed with anionic surfactants, such as polyacrylic acid or hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride, as incompatibility may reduce product effectiveness.
Dedicated containers, transfer lines, mixing tanks, and other equipment should be used. Avoid cross-contamination with anionic surfactants during storage, handling, and formulation.
